CERT is a training program that prepares you to help yourself, your family, and your neighbors in the event of a disaster. During an incident, emergency service personnel may not be able to reach everyone right away. By getting trained in CERT, you will have the skills to help emergency responders save lives and protect property.
As a member of a CERT team, you can respond to disasters, participate in drills and exercises, and take additional training. CERT teams are known and trusted resources to emergency responders and their communities. The role of a CERT volunteer is to help others until trained emergency personnel arrive.
CERT training takes about 20 hours to complete and provides critical skills in emergency preparedness and response.

The Cardinal Lego Loving Champs—2nd graders Michael, Gianluca and Patrick —have participated in the FIRST LEGO League Jr. 2015-2016 Waste Wise challenge. This season’s challenge was to “follow” a piece of trash to find out what happens to it after we throw it away. CLLC chose their piece of trash around Halloween, so of course they voted for candy wrappers! By watching videos and visiting the MIRA Trash Museum in Hartford, Connecticut, the team learned that non-recyclable trash such as candy wrappers usually end up in landfills, where trash is buried in layers underground. The team then built a Lego model of a landfill site complete with a garbage truck and a moving motorized conveyor belt that deposits trash into the landfill.
Check out the team’s project on display at the Library until August 31, 2016!
In an effort to provide more reliable communications with Residents and Businesses, the Township of Washington has implemented Swiftreach Networks, Inc. as our Emergency Notification service provider.
Swift911™ in its simplest form is a system that makes phone calls to specific people or areas in the event of an emergency or for sharing important information. All the calls you receive will have the Caller ID of 'Township of Washington' or 'Washington Township Police Department'. A confirmation email will be sent. (remember check your spam/junk email folder if you do not see it)
